Desert day!

Private Masada and Dead Sea tour

A day through the Judean Desert to the fortress of Masada and a float in the Dead Sea, with a licensed private guide

8 hours · Private

Hadara at the edge of Masada, overlooking the desert

Two thousand years of history, and the lowest place on earth

The drive down through the Judean Desert is part of the experience: shepherds and Bedouin camps, wide empty canyons, and the mountains of Jordan glowing across the water.

At Masada, the UNESCO World Heritage fortress on its desert cliff, we'll walk through King Herod's palaces and the story of the rebels' last stand. Then it's time to float.

The day

Through the Judean Desert

Views of shepherds, Bedouin camps and the mountains of Jordan along the way.

Masada

Up by cable car, or on foot by the Snake Path for the brave, then the fortress, the palaces and the views.

The Dead Sea

Two or three hours to float, cover yourself in mud and relax at a beach or spa.

Or an oasis hike

Swap the beach for a hike to the springs and waterfalls of a desert oasis.

Good questions

How long is the Masada and Dead Sea tour?

About 8 hours, including the drive from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv.

Do we have to hike up Masada?

No. A cable car goes to the top. Hikers can walk up the Snake Path instead, ideally early in the morning.

When is the best time to go?

Any time of year, with an early start. In summer it's very hot, so we begin as early as possible.

Any Dead Sea tips?

Don't shave the day before, keep the water away from your eyes, and bring water shoes and a towel. Just lie back and float.

Is it good for families?

Yes. Kids love the cable car, the fortress and the floating. I adapt the walking to the youngest and oldest in the group.
